OLD BELIEVERS, a slow-burning collection of tightly-crafted Americana songs, is Phillips’ first original full-length album since 2010’s ‘Gunnison’. In the years since, he’s made a name for himself as a producer, engineer and multi-instrumentalist, creating timeless and sonically-rich records with artists like David Ramirez, Thomas Csorba, Rob Baird, Troy Cartwright, and others.

‘Old Believers’ eschews modern studio tricks and ear candy in favor of organic performances that highlight Phillips’ penchant for tidy songwriting. Featuring tunes co-written with Mando Saenz, Colton Venner, Rob Baird, Bo Armstrong, and Thomas Csorba (who joins Phillips as a guest vocalist on “Waiting on a Rain to Rain”), the album reckons with the demons of our collective past and explores themes of loss, inadequacy, paralysis and hope.

Phillips is a traditionalist at hear, and he never intended the songs (or the production) to break the mold. But on ‘Old Believers’ he proves that classic forms can still feel visceral and thrilling in the right hands.

“The spiritualism combined with the longing, bedraggled humanity is a beautiful and moving juxtaposition.” - Greg Jones, Ear to the Ground
